          Economic Opportunity and Growth

With the right support, women can be the fastest growing economic force in the world. Women are key drivers of economic opportunity. According to the IFC, it is estimated there are 8 to 10 million women-owned SMEs in emerging markets (representing 31 to 38 percent of all SMEs in emerging markets).

The evidence of economic impact is persuasive. Research by Booz & Company estimates that raising female employment to male levels could have a direct impact on GDP of 12 percent in the United Arab Emirates, and 34 percent in Egypt.

And an International Monetary Fund report states that of the 865 million women worldwide who have the potential to contribute more fully to their national economies, 812 million live in emerging and developing nations.

          Food For Thought

According to Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), in 2012, an estimated 126 million women were starting or running new businesses in 67 economies around the world. In addition, an estimated 98 million were running established businesses.

          Social Progress & Impact

Successful women entrepreneurs in emerging markets deliver more than economic opportunity and growth. By breaking barriers and sharing their experience, these businesswomen can become powerful role models – inspiring other women entrepreneurs and beyond. Research by women2.0 highlights the need for role models, mentors and success stories in order to launch more successful women-businesses.

Beyond inspiration, studies show that in emerging markets women reinvest an amazing 80%90% of their income into their families and communities (compared to 30% to 40% for men) – delivering a multiplying social impact.

          Food For Thought

According to studies published by the World Bank, lack of women’s economic empowerment not only imperils countries’ growth and poverty reduction, but also has negative effects ranging from poor education and health outcomes for children to the spread of HIV/AIDS.

          The Vision

Linking human capital, networks and resources to build sustainable pipelines and communities of women entrepreneurs, Trestle Group Foundation (TGF) will deliver a combination of the Foundation’s flagship Empowering Women Entrepreneurs Partnership Program for high-potential women entrepreneurs and Connect & Accelerate customized training for early-stage women-led businesses.

          Partnership Program

TGF’s award-winning Empowering Women Entrepreneurs Partnership Program (EWEPP) identifies qualified women entrepreneurs in developing and emerging economies and partners them with established business professionals who help build the skills, strategies, practices and networks needed to overcome barriers to growth, and further develop the entrepreneur’s business.

          Connect & Accelerate Custom Training

Working with local delivery partners on the ground, TGFs custom training for early-stage businesses delivers executive education designed by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, and based upon the most common challenges facing women entrepreneurs in emerging economies.

The vital human capital delivered through the combination of programs includes:

          Food For Thought

According to Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, encouragement, mentors, role models, human and social (networks and resources) capital are especially important to women entrepreneurs.

          The Foundation

Developed by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs, Trestle Group Foundation is an innovative nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and expanding sustainable economic opportunities in developing and emerging economies by supporting women-led businesses.

Built on a new model of nonprofit support, and guided by the belief that entrepreneurship fuels the engine that drives economic opportunity, growth and social progress, the Foundation has been working to empower and accelerate women entrepreneurs in emerging economies since 2005.

A PERSONAL NOTE FROM THE TGF 20:20 CO-CHAIRS: THOMAS & YUMI WEDGWOOD

          The Oranges Mug

My wife, Yumi, and I are very pleased to offer this very special mug we designed. The mugs are individually hand made from the finest English bone china in support of Trestle Group Foundation’s 20:20 Initiative.

Our support of the Foundation, and empowering woman entrepreneurs in emerging economies, is a cause with which Josiah Wedgwood would proudly agree. When women succeed, they reinvest heavily – positively impacting their families, communities and countries.

For this special mug, we have incorporated oranges into the design as a representation of good fortune. The tree was included out of respect for what it takes to grow and nurture something with long term vision. These qualities are encapsulated within the hearts of women entrepreneurs around the world.

We wish all 20,000 entrepreneurs good fortune and great success.

          Warmly,

          Thomas & Yumi Wedgwood
